Emma Schmidt, known by the pseudonym Anna Ecklund, was an American woman who underwent a series of extensive exorcisms between 1912 and 1928, the most notable being a 126-day event in 1928. The exorcisms, performed by Father Theophilus Riesinger, were documented in detail and are considered among the most thoroughly recorded cases of alleged demonic possession in the 20th century. Controversy surrounds Schmidt's true identity and early life, with conflicting accounts of her birthplace and parentage. The exorcisms were reportedly violent and resulted in physical deterioration before her apparent healing. Her story was eventually featured in Time magazine.
